New degree structure
What has changed?
Bachelor of Music (180 op)
Master of Music (150 op)
The new curriculum is competence-based: learning outcomes are defined for the Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees, for each main subject separately, for each module and for each unit. Tuition content, the tuition itself and the assessment of completions are all based on these learning outcomes.
In both the Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programmes, studies are divided into main subject studies and elective studies. The Bachelor’s degree also includes a separate language studies module.
Main subject studies consist of one or more modules and related units. The proficiency demonstration and maturity essay may form a separate module or be included in a wider module.
The content and scope of main subject studies varies depending on the main subject or instrument. There may be optional or mutually exclusive units in addition to compulsory main subject studies.
Elective studies may be freely chosen by the student and may include studies from other main subjects or from another school of UniArts Helsinki. At the Master’s level at the latest, the student must include secondary subject studies — either a predefined secondary subject module or one individually designed for the student. Students may begin their secondary subject studies at the Bachelor’s level.
Written communication studies are a new addition to the language studies module required for the Bachelor’s degree.
